WA Gov Race Primary Updates

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 08:58:35 PM PDT

So yes it is only a primary and yes both Gregoire and Rossi move on but if Rossi wins tonight knock on wood it would give him momentum for the General Election and perhaps McCain would put more money in WA as well. Here are the current results. Results come from the WA Secretary of State website.

Teaching Obama supporters a lesson.

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 11:44:34 AM PDT

I have supported Obama from the first day, mostly by donating money but later by writing letters to the editor in support of Senator Obama. Here in Dupage County I am part of the Democratic parties’ letter writing group, now when we write letters we share them with the group for feedback and critiques. One day a letter came to my inbox that slammed Obama in favor of Clinton. I was surprised to say the least and I dared to ask the writer, someone I had never met but had agreed with on many occasions, why such anger towards Obama? Her response was an eye opener and in the weeks to come the "leader" of the letter writers had to separate us – well at least is a metaphysical over the internet e-mail sense. After that it was flame on – instead of just supporting Obama I went after Clinton and her supporters which kicked off my first ever diary on Kos.

The wheels on the bus go round and round

I am getting a lot of de ja vu lately when I watch the TV coverage of the presidential campaigns.  And I think I know why: we've heard it all before.

Primary Results for Mark Udall's Replacement CO-2 (Tight So Far)

Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 07:31:40 PM PDT

One of the biggest mistakes I feel we in the national netroots (state blogs have been more into it) have made this cycle  (and every cycle, for that matter) is our lack of involvement in primaries for open House seats.

In my opinion, getting involved in open-seat races is probably the easiest way to ensure a progressive House of Representatives. If we get in early, we can help provide a major cash advantage for our preferred candidate, because there is no incumbent with a massive war chest to take down.

It's also far, far easier to win an open-seat primary than it is to take down an entrenched incumbent (granted, it's still worth it in cases like Wynn and Lieberman and Cuellar and Lipinski, but there's only a handful of other districts where it's worth the resources). Furthermore, if we don't get involved, a bad candidate might get through.

Of course, it's too late for that in tonight's race in CO-2, and Jared Polis and Joan Fitz-Gerald both seem to be fine candidates.

A plea to CT-04 Democrats

Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 06:03:41 AM PDT

There's a primary today.  It's a nuisance, top to bottom, pitting a candidate who has been vetted every which way and fervently supported by every legitimate body in the district and state against a person who has been trying to pre-empt and subvert the process at every turn and who espouses views that in many cases are very little short of bizarre, and whose personality has been described in similar words (and worse).  So why should it even matter that people show up and vote for Jim Himes today?

Cohen defeated Tinker by 60%

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 08:03:47 PM PDT

Well the good people of Memphis, both black and white, said NO to race-baiting and anti-semitism politics and gave Steve Cohen a HUGE victory over Nikki Tinker.

Cohen won the Democratic primary by 79% to 19%.

Wow!

Tennessee Primary Results Thread.  Updated

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 05:34:31 PM PDT

Here is a link to the U. S. Senate primary results.  It's a big field for the Democrats.  Lamar Alexander is unchallenged.  Well, he's challenged in a lot of ways, but he is unopposed in the primaries.

What if McCain withdrew?

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 11:39:34 AM PDT

I'm uncomfortable about this election. McCain just doesn't seem to be a worthy opponent for Obama. The campaign has already descended into trivialities instead of issues. The Republicans need a credible, viable candidate to make this all worthwhile.

It's easy to forget that the Republican convention is almost a month away. It's not too late for them to pick someone else. Not only that, it would probably all be consistent with their party rules (I admit I haven't checked). That is, if all of the primary election candidates withdrew their candidacy, including McCain, then the candidate would simply be chosen at the convention, as they were in the "old days".

Hillary may push for vote - I told you so!

I hate to tell you I told you so, but I told you so:

Doesn't Look Good for Brock Olivo (Olivo Breaks 1,000!)

Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 06:25:14 PM PDT

Sorry to break the bad news to y'all.

But our hero, the great, the learned, the wise, the socially studied Brock Olivo seems to be heading to a resounding defeat tonight.

Despite his star record as a rusher at Mizzou and his Jehovah's Witness-like commitment to showing up at the polls, the Republican voters seem to be going with one of the other unqualified candidates, either the corrupt "family values" man Bob Onder, or the liar Blaine Luetkemeyer.

It's neck and neck between Steve Gaw and Judy Baker for the Democratic nomination in this seat, last held by a Democrat named Harold Volkmer, who lost to current incumbent Ken Hulshof (who's narrowly ahead in the gubernatorial primary tonight) in 1998

What Democrats who vote for McCain are doing to other peoples.

Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 08:28:26 PM PDT

We've been tremendously blessed, so to say, that we have had the field of Democrats that we did.  And even though my guys (Kucinich and Edwards) didn't win, I'll be happy to vote for Barack Obama in the general election.

But there are some angry voters who have stated their intent to vote for or seriously consider John McCain, and I see this as not only a slap to the Democratic Party, or the Progressive movement, but a slap in the face of many very real people.

Polling in NH-01

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 03:47:26 PM PDT

I am wondering if anybody on here lives in New Hampshire's first Congressional district represented by Democrat Carol Shea-Porter.  The reason I am asking is that new polls out show her beating one candidate(John Stephen), but trailing the other(former Rep. Jeb Bradley).
http://www.politico.com/...

I am thinking that anyone who lives in this district should grab a Republican primary ballot on September 9th and vote for John Stephen, who is almost certainly the weaker candidate.

Media In Denial Re: Their Treatment of McCain

Sun Jul 13, 2008 at 06:34:09 AM PDT

Posted at Politico yesterday, Ben Smith pushes a piece arguing that the current media cycle doesn't benefit... wait for it.... JOHN MCCAIN.

Rep. Nadler, what are you waiting for?

Sat Jul 12, 2008 at 10:12:19 AM PDT

Let’s look at some the events of the last few days, to see what they have in common:

  1. Dennis Kucinich introduced a single new article of impeachment against the president, for his and his administration’s lying us into a disastrous and illegal war;
  1. Karl Rove not only failed to appear before the HJC on Thursday after being subpoenaed, but he skipped the country without notifying Congress(!);
  1. Nancy Pelosi, in her signature style (vague, ambiguous, and vague again), made a statement which seemed to leave the door open for impeachment hearings hearings (back on the table?);
  1. I, Adam Sullivan, filed well in excess of the number of required petition signatures to gain ballot access for the Democratic primary here in NYC, where...

Wasn't Obama Running on Transparency?

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 05:50:39 AM PDT

I thought transparency was the cornerstone of the Obama campaign.

Last year, he even introduced a bill to mandate presidential candidates identify their bundlers.

It looks like that policy has been "refined".

Today's NYT reports “
In March, “after months of requests from the Chicago Sunday Times,
the Obama campaign released a roster of nearly 300 people
on its National Finance Committee to the Newspaper.  But the
campaign declined this week to release a more recent roster to
 the New York Times.“

Does Mitt Romney Have a Deal, or What?

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 04:25:11 PM PDT

Maybe it is just me. Did anyone else wonder what transpired in early February causing Mitt Romney to suddenly suspend his presidential election campaign? Just as he enjoyed the near unanimous support of talk radio’s conservative elite and the secular right, He threw in the towel! When speaking before CPAC, he put aside his prepared speech which had been distributed to the press and he unexpectedly withdrew from the race. He is said to have spent $40 million dollars of his own money on the race. Why quit?

What was the Deal??

FL-10 - Kos, PLEASE readdress this district!

Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 07:16:03 AM PDT

Markos, you addressed this district last year, it deserves some more attention.  There is a new challenger in the race for Florida's 10th district, Mayor Bob Hackworth.  A staunch opponent of telecom immunity and already established as a successful politician in the district, Hackworth is the only one of the three democratic challengers who has actually held public office, twice elected to the City Commission and elected as Mayor of Dunedin, Fl. He also helped make Dunedin only the 3rd Florida city to be considered "green". This is a seat that democrats CAN win in November.  With groundbreaking officially beginning on the new Walter Reed, now is a perfect time to hit Republican incumbent C.W. Young hard on his failure to alert congress to what he knew to be poor conditions at the old medical center.
